As we all have gotten back into our routines here in Nashville, we started to debrief about our recent trip to NYC. We learned so many things while we were gone and we just wanted to share what we learned with you!
Question #1: How has your perspective of boldness changed?
“I realized how easy stepping out in boldness is. There were so many times while we were away that stepping out was so natural and easy. I would encourage you to take the first step and see what happens!”
“Prior to this trip, I think I viewed boldness as something that had to be worked up. On this trip, I saw amazing results when I just acted on the first thoughts that popped into my head. I was surprised to find out how receptive people were! Approaching people doesn’t have to be scary, especially if you’re feeling prompted by the Holy Spirit. What used to scare you can become what you crave!”
“ Boldness is a continual choice of pressing through your personal barriers. Boldness isn’t just a personality trait or something you are born with. It is a choice of character attached to confidence in who God is.”
“ My perspective on boldness has changed because I have realized the impact it can have on people when you step out to talk to or encourage a stranger. I loved seeing the demeanor of someone change because a stranger had come up to them simply to encourage them. It takes boldness to approach a stranger, especially when you don’t know how you will be received, but seeing some of the exciting things that came about from this has made me realize how important and impacting it can be.”
“I don’t feel like my perspective of boldness changed; I felt like my perspective of boldness enhanced. To me, being bold is intentionally following through with the little promptings of the Holy Spirit, and not hesitating to step out of your normal routine to bless another’s life.”
Question #2: What advice do you have for people who want to step out in boldness?
“Be confident. Be brave. Follow what Holy Spirit is saying and do it! God will back you up!”
“ Go with whatever loving thoughts pop into your head. I didn’t write an encouraging word or pray for every single person we encountered. Boldness can be as simple as complimenting a stranger on her outfit. Whatever you do, do it in love!”
“Be confident in God to come through. Be confident in yourself- you hear God, you are chosen, you have so much to give.”
“ I would say to start small. You could write a note for a server or barista or anyone you encounter during your daily routine and hand it to them.”
“When you get that prompting in your heart... Just go for it!! God is always faithful!! I guarantee that when you make a decision to step out, it kicks fear in the face and you’ll see amazing things take place!!”
